Scholarship, Sisterhood, Service, and Social Action

Since its chartering in 1977, the Lakeland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has been a driving force for positive change throughout Polk County. Guided by the principles of Scholarship, Sisterhood, Service, and Social Action, our chapter has spent nearly five decades empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building healthier, more vibrant communities through impactful educational, cultural, and public service initiatives.

Period Poverty

Period poverty is the lack of access to menstrual products, hygiene supplies, education, and adequate sanitation needed to manage a menstrual cycle with dignity. In the United States, 2 in 5 menstruators struggle to afford period products, forcing many to miss school, work, or other important activities because they simply cannot access basic necessities.

By contributing to period poverty initiatives, you help restore dignity, improve health outcomes, and remove barriers that prevent women and girls from reaching their full potential. Every donation—whether menstrual products or financial support—helps ensure that no one has to choose between purchasing period supplies and meeting other basic needs.

Together, we can break the stigma surrounding menstruation, promote menstrual equity, and empower women and girls to thrive. One donation can make a lasting difference—because periods should never be a barrier to education, opportunity, or dignity.

Good Friday Hot Lunch Giveaway

In the spirit of service and compassion, members of the Lakeland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. proudly hosted a Good Friday Hot Lunch Giveaway for residents of the Boggy Bottom Community in Winter Haven, Florida. Through this initiative, chapter members distributed free hot meals, providing nourishment, fellowship, and hope to individuals and families in need during the Easter season.

This community service project reflects our unwavering commitment to public service and demonstrates our dedication to addressing food insecurity while strengthening relationships within the communities we serve. By sharing a warm meal and a welcoming smile, we strive to make a meaningful difference—one act of kindness at a time.

Service. Compassion. Community. That’s the Delta way.
